Fertiliser Matching & Carbon Smart Planning Tool

Overview

NutriSmart automatically matches fertiliser products to the crop’s nutrient requirements (Nitrogen (N), Phosphate (P), Potash (K), Magnesium (Mg), and Sulphur (S)).

It uses the nutrient recommendations to produce an optimised fertiliser plan, including timing and nutrient splits aligned with RB209 crop growth stages.

It also accounts for organic inputs, incorporating GHG emissions and ammonia losses calculated via the FLEA model.


Availability

NutriSmart is available to use for selected arable crops and for grassland recommendations and will show automatically for those recommendations providing you have access to the tool. The feature is gradually being rolled out - let us know if you'd like access to it.


Prerequisites

Before using NutriSmart, ensure that:

  • A recommendation has been created for the crop
  • Fields have been assigned to the recommendation
  • The nutrient requirement has been generated

⚠️ The NutriSmart tool will not function unless all prerequisite data is complete.


Step-by-Step Workflow


1. Generate Nutrient Timings (“Get Splits”)


👉 This creates the nutrient timing table.

This action generates:

    • Suggested number of nutrient splits.
    • Application split date.
    • Associated growth stage at each timing date.
    • Nutrients to apply at each split.

  • Click the arrows next to the nutrient split to access and adjust the suggested nutrient split data.
  • If you are placing nitrogen in the seedbed or plan to establish a cover crop after the main recommendation crop, then specify by editing the “Co2eq Mitigation Measures”.

2. Review and Edit the Timing Table

You can:

  • Adjust nutrient rates.
  • Modify timings.
  • Add/remove applications.

What to look for:

  • Key controls:
    • Optimal nutrient targets (N, P, K, S, Mg) per split.
    • The number of applications per split - each split can be divided into two applications if required
    • Product matching filters at each split.
    • Product rate adjustments.

This button allows you to select alternative products from the prelist

Product Optimisation

Product suggestions may be based on specific product criteria.


Access the Product Optimisation settings by clicking the Settings icon:⚙️

Product Type

    • Liquid / Solid / Foliar
  • Solid fertilisers:
    • Form: Prill / Granule
    • Type: Blend / Compound
  • Suppliers
    • Select preferred supplier list
  • Number to Rank

Product Types may also be customised individually on each fertiliser split.


3. Optimise

The Optimise button automatically applies the best-fit fertilisers for each split.

4. Adjust Products and Applications

Refine the final fertiliser plan if necessary

You can:

  • ✅ Change fertiliser products.
  • ✅ Remove or add product applications.
  • ✅ Modify application rates.

The system updates:

  • Nutrient totals.
  • Carbon footprint.
  • Application plan
